January ART Challenge

 WEEK 2 of 2019 January ART Challenge
A variety of media was used in the past 7 days' art.   
Acrylic was used on the cat,  floral, abstract, and rock.  Pastels for the Indian guy, and Oils on the scenes: Monument Valley, and Hawaiian beach.
For sure it Is a challenge to do this everyday, but an enjoyable one!

A Thanksgiving New Year's Eve

2018 has been a phenomenal year of sales in all my medias: paintings, painted rocks and scarves.  Below is a sampling of some of them. Never one to brag about sales, I feel led to make mention of them at this time this final day of Dec 31, also to give God the glory and due thanks!

1. A Family Portrait Story

Actually, every artwork tells some kind of story, or perhaps ought to.  In a number of my paintings, I've used images of a family member or more that captured my aesthetic interest, other than using as a regular portrait. 
Here are just a few to begin with; I will be posting more of these in future blogs.

"Uncle Jake and Aunt Rita"  Pastels on paper
you guessed it~ this is my Uncle Jake and Aunt Rita! some real down-home country folk who had a farm in Ypsilanti, MI.

"Rainbow Fairy"  Acrylics [with pastels] on board.
Again, using Silvia's expressive face on my fantasy fairy.
And this time she is very happy!

"Earth Child" Mixed Media consisting of pastels and acrylics on hardboard.
This time I used Silvia's younger sister, Esther as the sleeping baby of "Earth Mother".  
Earth Child bloomed as the center of a flower overnight in a wheat field

DRAWING IN THE DARK

Sometimes I like to randomly sketch in the evening while relaxing on the couch, especially if I didn't get any Art done that day.  On this particular night as usual I had the lights dimmed, but felt I had enough light to do a simple colored pencil drawing.  Later I realized this altered the colors somewhat; for ex: the green pencils looked like blues, and what I thought was fleshtone was actually yellow!

Whats more, the day after I discovered the drawing was done upside down in the sketchbook!

The important (and good) thing here is I "like" how it turned out and enjoyed the process.

TEXTURED WAVE ~~ 3Day OIL PAINTING

 1. 8 x 10 hardboard panel which I pretextured with modeling paste, let dry, then gessoed.  
2. Preliminary application of specially mixed oil colors & Liquin; left to dry again. 
3. Today the crowning touch of drybrushed highlights!

Sonoran Sunset

Final day of challenge! I thought a sunset would be fitting, so this one ended up in the desert.  6 x 8" Oils on canvas. Really had fun with this one, almost just 'happened'.

I saw Mr. Churchill's image on some news site today and decided: "okey, been wanting to do his portrait, so I may as well today, for Day 29!"  This is what you call a pastel painting, done with Pan Pastels.   measures 8 x 9".

The Popular Poppy

Day 27: "The Popular Poppy"
8 x 8" acrylics on stretched canvas. Although this image looks bright enough to be color enhanced, I swear it is not..even took the photo outside on my porch in the fading daylight!

Pink Pursuit

Acrylics 8 x 10" on canvas panel.
This morning I was destined to do something in light pink !!

LARGE and SMALL

For Day 25 I chose 2 very different shaped shells from my collection, with one dominating with its size and beauty.
Painted in acrylics on 4 x 4" Clayboard*.
*(finally got used to the nice smooth surface, using to its advantage..ordered some more of this stuff the other day)!

BABY DOE

Day 23 .. "Green Eye"
5 x 5" acrylics on watercolor paper

Kitty Cat

Painting # 22 of 30 Days, done in oils on 6 x 6" Clayboard.
After approximately 3 1/2 hrs I decided to quit fussing with it.
On a future day Kitty shall get more details, like:
highlights in the white areas, and some whiskers!

The QUEEN

My first queen, painted, that is. I have sketched them enough times. There is really a lot of fancy details that one must narrow it down in order to get a painting done within a few hours. Pleased thus far, I shall try for a more stylized approach next time!

Red Rose Tea

This I painted while at Tuesday Art today while chatting with the other artists in our group.  Someone said: "When you gonna drink your tea?" I said: "Not going to; that's my model..!"
